Fitness for Busy People with Tight Schedules

Is a busy schedule keeping you from getting the fitness you want? Don't let yourself get shorted on a workout anymore! The following are useful tips to not only manage your tight schedule for fitness but to also keep easy exercises in mind when you have extra time.

Schedule Fitness Time Effectively

An important element for keeping up on fitness with limited time is to know how to effectively perform workouts throughout your schedule. The following are a few examples to help you out.

1. Substitute late night activities with exercise

TV Remote

After a long busy day, it may be tempting to relax on the couch or watch some TV. However, this could be time spent catching up on your fitness! Sometimes night workouts are the only time you have a moment to give for some exercises. You can do a number of exercises such as regular routines, dumbbells, running, or more. If you don't want to get too amped up before bed, you can try things like stretching or yoga. Another option is to find a local gym that works around the clock, you could visit it whenever you have 20 minutes to spare.

2. Take advantage of commercials

If you must see your favorite shows at night for your own sanity, workout during the commercials! You can easily use bands, dumbbells, or your body weight to workout. What else are you going to do anyways, sit on the couch? During the commercial, do as many exercises and reps as you are able to. Consistently exercising during commercials of a 30-minute show can get you almost 10 minutes of workouts.

3. Pre-plan your morning routine

Mornings may be the busiest time of the day for you. However, waking up a half hour early and preparing breakfast the night before can help fit a great 20-30 minute workout into your schedule. If you have people who can help you, such as a partner or older children, delegate morning responsibilities. Having your partner make sure the kids brush their teeth or an older child help dress the younger ones can give you an extra 10 minutes for the workout.

4. Use your resources

Home Fitness Equipment

Sometimes a good workout comes from using the resources around you. If you are in an office, use a chair to do dips. If you are at a kid's outside game, use jungle-gyms or other available resources for exercising activities. Be creative to get that extra pump you need in!

Easy Exercises for a Quick Workout

Along with modifying routines and habits, busy people can incorporate fitness into a tight schedule by keeping handy easy exercises to do when time is limited. The following is a list of some exercises you can keep in your back pocket.

  • Push-ups
  • Chair dips
  • Lunges
  • Sit-Ups
  • Jumping-jacks
  • Squats
  • High knees
  • Stretching
  • Yoga
  • Dumbbells
  • Planks
  • Bridges
  • Mountain climbers
  • Burpees

Don't Give Up

A tight schedule for busy people is challenging to work around. Sometimes, things may not always go as hoped or planned. However, keep to it and enjoy working out whenever you can!
